Posting Tips for Event Sponsors
Please read this page to ensure you get the most out of promoting your events for free with CityEventsCalendar.org.
IMPORTANT: Remember to Rate Your Events to Get/Keep Them at the Top of the Listings! Use the Star Ratings found on the individual listings!
Some Basic Rules
- No affiliate links!
- No online events! Local events only!
- No ticket agents, brokers, or similar parties.
- Attempts to rate competing listings poorly to get to the top will result in penalties for your own listings!
The Basics of Listing Your Event
1. When choosing your Category, make sure you post to the most appropriate category for your event under your location. Please post each event to only one category.
2. Make your Title as descriptive as possible. Try to use a ‘keyword rich’ description that includes the main search term that someone might use to find your event on search engines such as Google.
3. Make sure you enter your Event Date as YYYY-mm-dd. Such as 2009-08-19 for August 19, 2009. Entering it any other way will likely cause your event not to show in the listings or to prematurely expire.
If yours is a multi-day event where visitors may visit for just one day such as a county fair, please list the event separately for each day. For instance a three day event would actually have three separate listings. If it is a multi-day event such as a class or seminar in which participants will only attend all the days, please only list once using the start date.
4. The City, State field is what will show in the listings for your location. You may use either the specific suburb or township, or the larger metro area in which your event will be held. With the exception of some in-house listings, Locations such as “Near You” or “Downtown” are not allowed and will be deleted.
5. If you like visitors to be able to easily use Google maps to get directions to your location, include a complete address. This is highly recommended.
6. Please be as descriptive as possible in your Description. Again, try to make it “keyword rich” and make sure you include any pricing information, complete times and dates for the event, and attire if necessary.
7. Tags are keywords that will help people find your event. Include up to three words or very short phrases people may use when searching for your event.
8. If you have images of last year’s event, a logo for your event, or anything similar that may entice people to attend, please upload up to three.
Beyond the Basics – Optimizing Your Promotion on CityEventsCalendar.org
1. IMPORTANT! – Rate your event and ask friends, relatives, members, colleagues, etc. to rate it! The default listings are sorted by rating. Visitors will resort to view by date but you can make sure your event is seen by getting it to the top! Do Not Slap Competing Listings Just to Get to the Top! You Will Be Penalized!
2. Use the social networking buttons at the bottom of your post to add your listing to your profiles. Click the “Tell a Friend” link to instant message or email your contacts about your event.
3. Complete your profile. You can access your profile by clicking the “dashboard” link in the upper right corner, then the “My Profile” link on the right. This will provide visitors a chance to learn about your organization. It is also viewable by search engines so again, make it keyword rich.
